FCA Announces Monster-Spec’d Jeep for 2018

2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk Specs and Release Date

If you had to come up with a list of words you would use to describe Jeep as a brand, it would undoubtedly include words like:

  • Rugged
  • Adventurous
  • Athletic

With the release of the all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, however, they’re looking to add some words to that list – some new words, some different words.

Words like insanely-fast seem far removed from Jeep’s brand, but that’s only to most of us who haven’t heard of the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk…until now.

2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk Engine and Power

While Jeeps have enjoyed big, beefy engines for a long time (looking at you, Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.9 Limited), their boxy body shape, huge wheels, and outdoorsy aesthetic have built a reputation as vehicles optimized for off-road, rather than track, performance.

The 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is defined as much by what it’s not as what it is. For starters, it’s not an off-road vehicle. Unlike every other vehicle bearing the name “Jeep Grand Cherokee,” the 2018 Trackhawk doesn’t feature Jeep standard off-road amenities that have allowed their brand to be synonymous with trail-worthiness.

This Grand Cherokee is something new – a supercar SUV (superSUV?). Under the hood, the Trackhawk is powered by a 6.2L supercharged Hemi-V8 capable of delivering 707 horsepower and 645 lb-ft. of torque to all four wheels. This supercharged power and distribution adds up to a 0-60 acceleration time of 3.5 seconds.

You read that right, under four seconds…

…from a Jeep Grand Cherokee.

A Surprise, to be Sure, But a Welcome One

With the Trackhawk, Jeep is looking to expand the idea of what constitutes a Grand Cherokee. Even without off-road capabilities, the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk has a tow rating of 7,200 lbs. A robust all-wheel drive system, and a luxury interior make the Trackhawk the best all-weather option to get you from A-B – in style (and fifteen minutes early).

With a curb weight of almost 5,400 lb., the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is no lightweight. This makes the acceleration time all the more impressive.

Not typically a concern for performance drivers, fuel economy is predictably low. The EPA-estimated 13 combined mpg means you’ll become pretty familiar with the people at your local fuel station.

Although, with a Jeep that so effortlessly combines raw muscle and stunning aesthetics, you may not mind showing it off this often.
