This increased popularity has inspired the three founders of Mil-Spec Automotive to renovate classic Hummer H1 models and re-release them not only as good as new… but better. Every model that Mil-Spec works on, including this one, starts from an original H1 model. They took that original model and completely disassembled it, all the way down to the nuts and bolts, so that they can check everything out. They repair where needed, clean everywhere, make any other necessary adjustments (including many upgrades) and then reassemble. The finished product is incredible and, as we said, perhaps even better than the original.
The powertrain, specifically, gets upgraded. They toss out the old engine and transmission combination, which was one of the biggest negatives of the original model according to most critics and owners, and replaced it with a new 6.6L Duramax turbodiesel V8 engine. Along with some tuning and other powertrain upgrades, the new Mil-Spec Hummer is capable of generating 520 horsepower alongside a whopping 1,000 pound-feet of torque. The powertrain is so incredible that MSA claims this beast can hit 60 miles per hour in just 6.0 seconds.
