What powers the DPi-V.R Prototype Race Car?

Cadillac 6.2L V8 Engine Performance Specs

Both the 2017 Cadillac CTS-V and Escalade prestige vehicles are equipped with a 6.2L V8 engine, and the engine is quite capable and impressive in each. But Caddy engineers decided to bump the engine to the next level for the DPi-V.R prototype race car, a vehicle that was undefeated at the 2017 mid-season mark of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. While the engine isn’t exactly the same as the other two, they share very similar attributes to one another with improved performance specs.

“As in the Cadillac CTS-V and Escalade, the Cadillac 6.2L V8 in the race car produces unrivaled, unfailing power and responsiveness. This season we exchanged engines only once for each car, each receiving a fresh engine after the Rolex 24 at Daytona. We disassembled the first engines and found no issues, problems or anomalies after the Rolex 24. The three cars have each run the engine we installed after the 24-hour race, taking the green flag on the first practice at Sebring, running and winning at Sebring, Long Beach, the Circuit of the Americas and Detroit with no major issues.”

– Richard Brekus, Global Director of Product Strategy, Cadillac.

This engine shows not only what Cadillac is capable of as a manufacturer, but what production-version sports models like the CTS-V could be capable of. The engine in the prototype is capable of outputting close to 600 horsepower at 7,600 rpm – the maximum allowed. We imagine without restrictions it would be even more capable.

CTS-V Engine Specifications

While the CTS-V model’s engine is slightly different, it’s impressive in its own right. Its version of the 6.2L V8 engine is supercharged and SAE-certified to produce 640 horsepower alongside 630 pound-feet of torque, making it capable of hit a max speed of 200 mph and making it to 60 mph from 0 in just 3.7 seconds.

Even if we don’t have a CTS-V available as you’re reading this, feel free to give us a call and let us know what you’re looking for and we’ll see what we can do. We look forward to hearing from you!
